How to: Rename a database.
Solution:
Open Windows Explorer, select the database file to rename, select 'Rename' from the 'File' menu, and type the new name of the database.
NOTE: A filename can contain up to 255 characters, including spaces.
1) Close the desired database.
NOTE: In a multi-user environment, have all users close the database.
2) Open Windows Explorer:
a) Click 'Start' todisplay the Windows 'Start' menu.
b) Select 'Programs' from the menu. (A submenu appears.)
c) Select 'Windows Explorer' from the submenu. (The Exploring window appears.)
3) In the 'Exploring' window, locate the database file to rename:
a) Select the drive where the database file is located.
b) Select the folder that contains the file. (The file appears in the Exploring window.)
NOTE: If the file is in a subfolder, continue selecting folders until the file is displayed.
4) Select the database file. (The database file is highlighted.)
5) Select the 'File' menu and select 'Rename'.
6) Type the new name of the file.
NOTE: Include the .MDB extension if Windows is set up to display MS-DOS file extensions.
7) Press ENTER.
NOTE: If any other databases include linked objects from the renamed database, update the links with the Linked Table Manager in Access. Otherwise, an error will occur when users try to use those linked objects.
